An environment and airship concept I worked on today. I feel a pang of pride for this as it's probably one of the only environment pieces I've done that I don't want to banish from the earth. I'm hoping to do a more detailed and polished concepts for the airship at a later date.

Critique is always welcome!

:iconblushingplz: YOU DID AN ENVIRONMENT PIECE I AM SO PROUD OF YOUUU

You did very very well on this I am totally amazed! 8D
I am so drawn to and gush over the painting job you did on the clouds! It's just brilliant! The color choices and how you shaded and lightened it is just so ASDFGHJ
Clouds are one of the most hardest things to color but have one of the most beautiful effects. * 3 *

I love the idea of the airships :D they are just awesome and have so much potential with their designs and concepts! And I bet these run on stream too with a complicated network of gears OH SO FUN :dummy:

But these are Ranmyaku's airships oh my! :noes:

I'm very interested on what those devices are on the bottom of the ships and why they have that particular shape. c:

OH HEY is that Arielle and Isamashii in front of the picture~? c:
You painted the rocks very well too :D I like their orange and purply colors.

And I agree with the critiques of ~cdabroom, but I also think the clouds should be shifting to the right of the picture as well along with the wind. c:

You really get a sense of the great power and influence of Ranmyaku's evil. Who knows how many armies he's got in ONE of those ships. :I

OH WHY THANK YOOOOOUUUUU~
:iconilikeitplz:

I really wanted to do a morning/dawn color scheme because I think it's cool how much more eerie and ominous danger seems contrasted against a peaceful setting. :U That and purples and blues and oranges are pretty. 8D

I want to hopefully work out an interesting steam powered mechanism for these! For now it's a bit ambiguous but when I work on the concept for these I can put more detail into it. The very bottom of the ship does have a few gears that stick out and I put that kind of curved piece in front to act as a shield against objects that could potentially fly into the gears and jam them. :U

But those definitely are Ranmyaku's and that is indeed Arielle and Isamashii! I love that you pick up on the little details I sometimes put into stuff. :la:

This is beautiful! I like how the smoothness of the middle ground contrasts with the more defined edges of the foreground and background, and I think the colors you chose really set the mood of this piece. I picture two scenarios when looking at this: one's a melancholy scene where I'm watching the ships leave for battle knowing they probably won't return, and the other is a more peaceful scene where I'm just sitting back and admiring the power of the navy/airforce.

As for criticism, I think the figures in the foreground should be casting a harsher shadow against the rocks. Also, the sails are being blown to the right of the page, but the flags on the ships are being blown to the left. I think making them blow in the same direction would add to the realism of the scene. However, I think these are minor details that don't really detract from the overall impact of the painting; great job!

Thank you! And that is an interesting interpretation of the scene, I always love hearing what people's views are and what stories they can see in a piece that I've done, because you often get different perspectives. C:

Haha, you know, I'm really glad you mentioned the problem with the flags! I honestly couldn't figure out which way they would be blowing (being moved from the wind or from the ship propelling forward?). So now that a couple people say that it looks odd I believe I have my answer! XD It should be a quick fix to switch that. Thank you for the comment! :D

No problem! And I think the only reason I noticed the flags was because I've made the same mistake before! A few years ago I was asked to draw my high school's mascot by one of the ladies who worked in the office(our mascot was a ship, pretty boring XD). I drew the picture the same way you did, with the sails and flags going in opposite directions, and everyone commented on it! I've been extra attentive to flags and sails in drawings ever since, to the point where it's the first thing I look for in pictures of ships. I think I'm slightly paranoid ^^;.
